Geneva’s ageing population raises major challenges in terms of social cohesion, independence and access to cultural and recreational activities. Through its "Bel âge" service, the CSP Genève offers a practical, friendly and appropriate response to these issues.
The CSP Genève has been working to promote social justice for more than 70 years. It advocates for a supportive and inclusive society that safeguards dignity and equality for all. Working on both an individual and collective level, it fights precariousness and supports several thousand people in Geneva every year, regardless of their social status, origin or religion. Both independent and transparent, the CSP is a key player in Geneva’s social fabric thanks to its strong local ties.
Geneva’s ageing population raises major challenges in terms of social cohesion, independence and access to cultural and recreational activities. Through its "Bel âge" service, created more than 60 years ago, the CSP Genève offers a practical, friendly and appropriate response to these issues.
"Bel âge" is aimed at people aged 55 and over, with a particular focus on the most elderly and those in precarious or very lonely situations. In 2024, more than 300 seniors benefited from this service, nearly half of whom were over 80. Through an evolving programme of group activities and individual support, "Bel âge" aims to foster an active social life, boost self-esteem and prevent a loss of independence.
It focuses on three complementary areas:
1. Regular activities to maintain mobility, mental health and social ties (walks, adapted hikes, aquagym and Pilates classes, fall prevention workshops, cultural or culinary outings, etc.).
2. Friendly events that encourage social and intergenerational connections (cultural events, themed talks, guided tours, festive gatherings, trips, etc.).
3. Personalised support for very isolated people (weekly home visits and telephone calls, monthly meals with transport provided, etc.).
Through these initiatives, "Bel âge" gives seniors a chance to remain independent, sociable and active, ensuring their twilight years are both dignified and fulfilling.
