Ensuring a stable food supply requires dedicated funding in order to better support vulnerable populations through staple products that are both nutritious and culturally relevant.
The Madrid Food Bank is the main provider of food supplies for vulnerable populations across the Community of Madrid. It plays a vital role in ensuring regular access to essential goods through an extensive network of partner charitable organisations.
This project, which builds on a previous initiative supported by the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Common Good, aims to complement the basic food basket intended for people experiencing hardship. It addresses the gaps created by recent reforms to the food distribution system which, while offering a degree of flexibility, leave many groups on the margins, particularly older people, those experiencing homelessness, and individuals without dependent children.
Among the products that make up the basic food basket distributed by the Madrid Food Bank, certain items are of particular importance due to their daily consumption in the Spanish diet. While donations of dry goods such as pasta, rice or tinned food are relatively common, other essential products, such as milk, are less frequently donated, despite being among the most in demand. Ensuring a stable supply therefore requires dedicated funding in order to better support vulnerable populations through staple products that are both nutritious and culturally relevant.
