Taiwan People’s Food Bank Association (TPFBA) is the only certified member of the Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) in Taiwan, highlighting its unique role and international recognition in the fight against food insecurity.
Taiwan People’s Food Bank Association (TPFBA) works to combat food waste by encouraging the general public to make donations, particularly of surplus food, which it then redistributes free of charge. Each year, the organisation manages to redistribute over 320 tonnes of food island-wide through its vast network of charity partners. It works with more than 220 beneficiary organisations to reach a large proportion of the population in need.
As part of its food support initiatives, TPFBA provides nearly 1,500 food parcels each year to economically disadvantaged families, particularly elderly people living alone. Each parcel contains essentials such as rice, noodles, nutritional rations, powdered milk, tinned food and other basic necessities. The contents are selected in partnership with nutrition experts at the Taiwan Nutrition Foundation.
Since its creation in 2011, TPFBA’s motto has been "No Waste, No Hunger", which serves to highlight the impact surplus food has on the fight against hunger. Through this approach, the charity hopes to create a true culture of food economy in Taiwan by encouraging respect for and conservation of resources.
