Les Restos du Cœur du Doubs

The Restos du Cœur du Doubs is committed to providing voluntary support to people in need, combating poverty and social exclusion. Its work is primarily based on food distribution but also includes a range of initiatives aimed at fostering social and economic integration throughout the Doubs region. Affiliated with the national organisation while retaining its own legal and financial structure, the association has been active since 1987 through a network of 11 permanent reception centres and one mobile unit serving eight additional localities each week.

The continuous rise in the number of people in difficulty has profoundly transformed the association’s activities. This growth requires not only greater human and logistical resources but also enhanced professionalisation in key areas: hygiene and food safety, transport and storage of goods, compliance of centres, fleet management, internal organisation and coordination of volunteers.

The project "Improvement of logistical resources for sustainable food distribution" aims to enable the Restos du Cœur du Doubs to address these challenges in a sustainable way through two main areas of focus:

1. Modernisation of transport logistics: the increase in rural poverty requires strengthening the material and human capacities of the mobile centre. This includes acquiring suitable vehicles, renewing the existing fleet and recruiting volunteer heavy goods vehicle drivers. Distribution flows must also be optimised and truck allocation improved in line with demand, so that the most appropriate vehicle can be deployed at each location according to needs.

2. Modernisation of reception centres: several sites require refurbishment or relocation in order to guarantee optimal reception conditions, food safety and working conditions for volunteers. In the medium term, five centres will benefit from renovation or relocation.

Beyond ensuring that the Restos du Cœur du Doubs can continue to support all those in need, these improvements also aim to strengthen the association’s initiatives focused on well-being, self-esteem, access to culture and leisure, training and return to employment – key levers for promoting social and professional reintegration.
