Established in the Jura region since 1992, the Restos du Cœur are currently facing several challenges that this project aims to address: ageing premises and equipment, vehicles requiring replacement, some rural areas that remain insufficiently served, and a decline in volunteer engagement.
Committed to supporting people in need, the Restos du Cœur provide comprehensive assistance aimed at restoring the dignity of those they support. Beyond food aid, their work is based on a holistic approach, promoting access to rights and services, healthcare, employment, culture and social inclusion.
Established in the Jura region since 1992, the Restos du Cœur are currently facing several challenges that this project seeks to address: ageing premises and equipment, vehicles requiring replacement, some rural areas that remain insufficiently served, and declining volunteer engagement.
Improving the welcome and support provided to beneficiaries is a key priority. Retaining existing volunteers and recruiting new ones has become a major challenge, particularly as all the association’s activities depend entirely on volunteers, with no dedicated salaried staff.
Reducing food waste and environmental impact is also among the organisation’s priorities. Improvements to the cold chain will help preserve a greater quantity of fresh produce and reduce losses, while a mobile grocery truck project will improve access to food aid for families living far from distribution centres, particularly in the Val d’Amour area, which comprises 24 municipalities.
At the same time, a new logistics organisation, shared with neighbouring departments, will help reduce costs and lower the carbon footprint.
Finally, the Restos du Cœur du Jura continue to develop new forms of personal support. In addition to food aid, their centres offer French language workshops, community gardens, early childhood spaces, employment support programmes and enhanced access to cultural activities.
