During the Covid-19 pandemic, Pane Quotidiano launched an innovative distribution programme that delivered food parcels directly to the homes of vulnerable, elderly and disabled people.
Pane Quotidiano is an Italian charity founded in Milan in 1898 to combat food insecurity. It is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to healthy, high-quality food by providing meals and basic necessities to the most disadvantaged people.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, when mobility restrictions and lockdowns were in force, Pane Quotidiano implemented exceptional measures to allow vulnerable people to obtain essential food resources while ensuring their safety. The charity launched an innovative distribution programme that delivered food parcels directly to the homes of vulnerable, elderly and disabled people.
The initiative continues to this day. Pane Quotidiano delivers over 150 parcels to homes every week thanks to its network of volunteers and private partner institutions. With an increasing number of people suffering from health problems and precarity, the charity aims to double the number of beneficiaries of this service to 300 parcels delivered per week.
The food distributed comes mainly from surplus food collected from donor companies. Nearly 3,300 tonnes were collected in 2023, benefiting around 1,300,000 people (across all services).
