Through its 34 regional centres, FareShare works with 8,000 charities across the UK. Manchester, which is ranked the 8th most deprived area in the country, is a priority region where the "Surplus with Purpose" programme is having a tangible impact on communities.
Founded in 1994, FareShare was born of the conviction that there is no justification for wasting good quality food, especially when people are going hungry. The organisation combats food insecurity while tackling the environmental impact of food waste at the same time. It works with various partners to redistribute surplus food to those in need, serving the public interest.
In January 2023, around 9.3 million adults were food insecure, representing 17.7% of households in the UK. In the face of the continuing cost of living crisis, FareShare and the charities it supports are facing increasing demand for their services. The "Surplus with Purpose" programme plays a key role in achieving FareShare’s mission, providing 55% of the fruit and vegetables distributed through its network to people who cannot afford to eat healthily – corresponding to one in seven people.

With the support of the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Common Good, FareShare will be able to distribute the equivalent of 793,000 meals a year, giving more than 5,800 people access to healthy, nutritious food. The Foundation’s donation will also prevent 667 tonnes of CO₂e emissions and save 886 million litres of water.
