Ecolhuma’s mission is to enhance the skills of teachers in France, in a context of educational crisis marked by concerning educational outcomes and a lack of in-service training.

According to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), in 2023 France ranked 22nd out of 38 OECD countries in mathematics and science, and 24th in reading literacy – which are some of the lowest results ever recorded. The reasons for this underperformance include excessive class sizes, a lack of in-service training, a rise in resignations and recruitment difficulties.

This project supports the work of Ecolhuma, which seeks to improve the quality of teaching and support teachers throughout their careers. A study carried out by the organisation reveals that 80% of teachers undertake training in their own time due to a lack of appropriate institutional provision. Existing training courses lack flexibility and do not always meet the needs of teachers on the ground.

With the support of the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Common Good, Ecolhuma plans to train 250,000 teachers, support 150 schools and help improve the education system for 4.5 million pupils over the next three years.

Through this project, Ecolhuma aims to improve teachers’ working conditions, boost their motivation and, ultimately, drive sustainable transformation for an education system capable of preparing young people for the challenges of tomorrow.
