Faced with a growing demand for support from vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, students and people experiencing homelessness, the Korbinian-Küche mobile kitchen distributes up to 600 meals and hot drinks every day to people in need, regardless of origin or faith.
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, food aid organisations located around Munich’s main railway station were faced with an upsurge in demand, notably due to the suspension of the daily distributions of hot meals in the city centre. In March 2020, Caritas quickly set up an emergency food bank in response to this situation.
As an inclusive food distribution centre, the Korbinian-Küche mobile kitchen offers meals to people experiencing hardship, regardless of origin or faith. Since 2020, it has become a reliable source of support for these people, whose situations have been weakened by the successive crises of recent years. The aim is not only to meet their basic needs, but also to provide them with a sympathetic ear for day-to-day support.
Every day, the Korbinian-Küche distributes up to 600 meals and hot drinks to people in need. Its work is helping to raise public awareness of the poverty problem, so that it is no longer perceived as a marginal phenomenon but as a major social issue that affects not only the individuals concerned, but society as a whole.
