Liberia has experienced several major crises – including civil wars and the Ebola epidemic – which prevented thousands of children from attending school and weakened the country’s entire education system. Today, this generation, deprived of education during a critical period, is struggling to find employment.

Despite investment in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), many young Liberians do not have the basic skills required to access these training pathways.

The Luminos Fund, an NGO specialising in accelerated learning programmes for young people not in school, launched a pilot educational empowerment project in 2024. This remedial literacy and numeracy programme, which also teaches practical and professional skills, is aimed at young people aged between 15 and 25.

The Luminos Fund’s teaching methods, which have already proved their effectiveness, are being implemented in this project through a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, ensuring institutional backing and enabling the mobilisation of existing infrastructures.

With these solid foundations, the Luminos Fund aims to give 5,000 young people the tools they need by 2028 to continue their education or training, find employment and fulfil their potential.
